To regain his family and all he has lost, Odysseus must rediscover his strength

After 20 years, Odysseus finally returns to Ithaca, where he finds his wife held prisoner by suitors vying to be king and his son facing death at their hands. This is the third time Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche have starred in a film together.

Odysseus: For some, war becomes their home

They previously worked together on Wuthering Heights (1992) and Engleski pacijant (1996). Penelope: How can men find their way to war but not their way home?

Indeed, both are kept quite apart for most of the development, which only makes the catharsis more powerful in the final, more intense and thriller-like part of an otherwise slower-developing film

Focused on diving into the multifactorial pain and suffering of Penelope and Odysseus during Odysseus' return to his home in Ithaca, this treatise set out to explore in a fairly systematic way the challenges that many soldiers face upon returning from active duty, including PTSD and other mental health issues, and reintegration into their former life with family and society, and the memories and pains suffered and inflicted, and the resulting inner change that is irreversible. The Return is driven by a great casting choice to allow the viewer to experience this roller coaster that the two key protagonists ride to significant heights, the latter due to the unique and particular resilience of Penelope and Odysseus at this difficult time in their lives and without the support of the other.

This is a great and very relevant work that must be experienced!

Fiennes brings to this play his unique style of depiction of suffering, a great extension of his wonderful skill set from his adjacent depictions of pain and anguish in Spider and The End of the Affair. Binoche is the perfect choice for Penelope, as the viewer could be somehow tricked into feeling and hoping that the two will reunite in the same way that they were close throughout The English Patient, and Pasolini exploits that to create additional tension in this play in those whose memory of The English Patient is vivid. https://shamyum.com/2024/12/09/cronk-cronk-swap-to-trx-tron/
