Naoko Yamada's fifth feature film

Chronology

A girl who sees colors in people's hearts joins a band with two other people. The Colors Within tells the story of Totsuko Higurashi (Sayu Suzukawa), a young girl who sees colors in the hearts of anyone she meets. She forms a band with her friends, namely Kimi Sakunaga (Akari Takaishi) & Rui Kagehira (Taisei Kido).

The Colors Within is a great film

Director Naoko Yamada has given us a film that is charming, quite funny & will make you cry by its final scene. However, it is not as flawless as Look Back (2024) or The Boy and the Heron (2023), two other anime films I have seen recently. The animation is breathtakingly beautiful & is the highlight of the film.

The songs are catchy

The vocal performances are on point. Sayu Suzukawa is magnificent as Totsuko Higurashi. Akari Takaishi is stunning as Kimi Sakunaga.

The supporting cast is brilliant
