Smith, who plays Lloyd, is a veteran of the rodeo world
A Montana ranching family faces off against other encroachments on their land. Forrie J. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often seems to “forget” his mountain accent and revert to the Southern California voice he normally uses.
Reminiscent of Rock Hudson in “Giant,” he’s trying to hold on to the old ways
Featured on WatchMojo: Top 10 Summer TV Shows That Are Not on Your Radar (2018) Kevin Costner is the patriarch who presides over a dynastic ranch the size of several countries. His way of life is being disrupted by resort developers, tribal rights and the authority of the state of Montana. “Yellowstone” moves along quickly with little introduction, but its story unfolds with the natural rhythm of a wild day, pausing for tribal rituals, cowboy conventions and political machinations.
Land and family are his lifeblood
It’s a far-flung endeavor that lingers on the seams between law and justice, family and friendship. Costner fills his character’s shoes naturally, it seems. He’s a world-weary man who’s seen too much and lied too often.
Update 7/20/18: After four episodes, this series has a strong voice and a steady pace
He can hear footsteps coming toward him, but he only gets to do his job out of habit and loyalty. While some of the actions are a bit confusing due to lack of explanation, they feel natural, as if the viewer is getting a genuine glimpse into life in another world. I hope the resolution of this saga includes an emotional payoff that justifies its breadth and attention to detail.
